Nottingham Castle

Nottingham Castle   (Notts)

Norman keep reconstructed in the 19th C as a museum; nice pub partly in a cave under the castle hill. Could have this castle confused with NORWICH--and also COLCHESTER, which I haven't been in--all three are now fairly substantial provincial museums rebuilt at various times to meet the needs of whatever they are museuming; there are lots of Robin Hood things in this area, even if he never existed -- why not take advantage of a good thing? This gatehouse is about all that's left of a very large medieval castle that was badly vandalized by history, although the mansion built on the site of the keep is now a very nice museum.
